Got two things to talk about today! First off I will talk about the demo for Lords of Shadow 2! It’s short… but fulllllll of action. The demo teaches you the basic mechanics of the game which this time around it feels far more fluid then it did in the first game. You are given the whip, a sword “Void sword” and “Chaos Claws” which are both more of a close combat style of weapons.

So with those weapons and of course being a vampire you now find yourself at the advantage of being able to grab your enemies this time and biting them for health. It works with a “timed” movement action sort of like before with the grab movies you had in the first one. You wait for the circle to match the other circle and BITE! Pretty simple and everything has to be timed of course! The demo really is just an easy mechanic teaching lesson. Jumping is also part of the fun while you will find yourself jumping onto a giant Steam Punk Robot! Which really concludes the demo.. it’s pretty short but does give you an even feel about the mechanics.

Short of a game coming out between now and the end of the year “THIS GAME” will probably be my favorite for 2013! However I wrote about it before “You can click here to see it” and really what I am going to write about will just be the short differences.

Ok to begin with if you haven’t played the 3DS version of this game you need to keep in mind something VERY IMPORTANT!…. ITS A 3DS GAME! Which doesn’t hinder the gameplay or anything like that but it does effect some of the visuals. So while this is an HD Port of a 3DS game you need to remember that because looking at this game and thinking “wow if this was designed for a ps3 or an xbox it would be so much BETTER!” but it’s not…it’s really just a port of the 3DS game with maybe a few details added.  The gameplay is the same, the cut scenes and everything are the same the only big difference is that it’s on a bigger screen AND your menus are changed… but that is about it!

So with all of that said! The game does look AMAZING in terms of detail and really does shine on the bigger screen. It’s backgrounds come out, the colors pop and the effects and soundtrack are AMAZING! It really does POP and does still hold that Classic Castlevania feel. Honestly very little is flawed about the game short of the fact…its a port.. Now to keep things in prospect you are given a couple differences with the psn version of the game… Your given a Leaders Board, and a boss mode.. which play out pretty fun and add to the replay value a bit.

AGAIN..IF YOU HAVEN’T PLAYED THE 3DS Game ITS A MUST PLAY! ITS SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO MUCH fun…especially if your a classic castlevania fan..

What is Fear ?

Seeing as how my favorite holiday of the year is coming up “Halloween” I figure it be cool if I release my favorite Horror Games of all time list! I don’t normally do list like this but I am a pretty big fan of horror and this is the first year I figure HEY…WHY NOT!? So lets start with TEN and count down!

Dante’s Inferno isn’t so much a game that scared me but is a game that kept with me.  Yes I read the book and I knew what I was going into for the most part starting the game. Yet what was slightly frightening about the game was the imagery. It didn’t disturb me as much as make me envision a place that just continued to get worse the more you went on with it. Like waking up tomorrow and having everything horrible happen every second you continued to count. You go from one place and say …ok… that’s interesting…then another..and say…ok how much more are they going to push this…and then by the end see that it’s pushed pretty far..almost with no bounds to anything… I mean yes it’s more of an action game but if you really look at the art and the imagery it presents…its pretty frightening to think about how bad that would be if hell was really anything like it…

Phantasmagoria was one of the first games I played “MANY MANY MANY YEARS AGO” that not only did I see as scary but really showed me how you can build an atmosphere that just presents an eerie environment. It wasn’t the chase, or a monster or gore that made it scary either because really didn’t have much of any of that in it. It held a level of suspense  to it that I think is what kept to me. You wanted to question why things happened to poor Adrienne Delaney. What was going on in the house? It really kept me motivated and in question about the underline of the world around the character. It played well enough to keep my attention and never let it go.

F.e.a.r was a game that surprised me. I haven’t had a game do that to me since my number one game and really I was thrilled with it! Again playing as more of an action game what fear does do it take a story, create an environment around it and make you question what is really around the next corner? It has a very dark feel to it like anything could happen next and it really does get into your head with how it plays off its story. Really just one of those games that again just keeps you wanting to see more but never letting you down with what might come next.

Now of all the silent Hill games really this one is my favorite. Lots of people would have probably picked Silent hill 1 or 2 but this game does something different then all those games and I REALLY loved it. It makes you question your own sanity. The game plays on what decisions YOU would make. Not the character but YOU! It asks you psychological questions, and forces you to explore the world based on how you answer them. If you answer honestly the game will take those answers and pretty much implement them into what will happen next.  The main thing that stuck with me about this game wasn’t so much the chasing or the monsters but the idea that if I had answered the questions a different way what would it have effected? Sort of like how in real life you always have what ifs? What if I had drank last night? What if I had been rude to that person? It leaves you with lots of questions about the decisions you make on a daily bases and what would happen if you had been stuck in such a bad situation that your world would be so effected by the decisions you make that things again continued to get worse because of them.

You really wouldn’t think to see this game on my list but let me explain something to you about myself before getting into this game. First of all I have a real fear of technological advancements in the world today. I honestly question when is it enough for everyone? When do the cell phones stop getting so advanced? When do we stop needing people to take the roles of jobs that machines would other wise do better? Now with this game Binary Domain your put into a world with robots. Which of course makes for a good action game! However the further you go in the game the stranger it gets. Soon you find out that some of the robots..don’t EVEN KNOW THEY ARE ROBOTS! Its a question that really everyone asks to a point…What is a soul? Could humanity ever create one with technology? Honestly its more disturbing a question then one would think and I think that given another thirty or forty will probably be a real question we ask ourselves…depending on how we advance…and that truly does frighten me!

Condemned 2 was a game that was interesting to me because it put you in the role of a low life bum who was really good at something. Ethan Thomas proves himself to be a character that has such potential to be a great detective but doesn’t. The reason I added this game to the list was because it really did present a very cool twist on how you don’t need to have monsters to make a place scary. What if you entered that abandoned warehouse looking for answers and someone started to chase you? What if the world was darker then you thought it ever could be and what if no one did anything to stop it? What if you gave up but still felt the drive to survive past everything that came your own way? Dark corners are dark for a reason and what if something is living in those corners…waiting…?

Now anyone who knows me knows I LOVE LOVE LOVE CLIVE BARKER… so why would I add this game? Well probably cause the imagery and art that went into it just again…stuck with me.. I loved the originality of the story and again the question of what is the soul. This game held a sort of odd taste to it.. It was mostly action again but if you look into the art and the twisted story line it was pretty creepy to look over…not so much horror as much as gore and the question of how things could get sooooooooo FU@#ED UP….

If a game with a nail gun and creepy freaking monsters can make my list it should really make EVERYONE’S LIST. Quake took the dark, gritty, POLYGONAL method for its time and pretty much scared everyone. I got my first real scare of opening a door and having something JUMP AND CLAW AT ME from this game. Its held a very special place in my heart and really had to make the list because it was scary for its time. Its aged horribly since then…but for its time it was one hell of a ride…

Eternal Darkness….really..what can I say about this game… Honestly this game is probably one of the best games that Nintendo “at the time” could have produced. A game that not only had a great story to it but had Elements to it that NO BODY seen coming. The sanity meter…CHRIST… I wish … more games could be as good as this game…

DOOM…..64….now before I go on..and explain why this game is MY NUMBER ONE most fear bringing game..I need to CHALLENGE YOU! First…get the game… WAIT till midnight…put on the best head set you have…and play the game…Honestly to this day parts of this game still scare me..and I refuse to ever do that challenge again… Now you would think…ITS DOOM….what’s so scary? The soundtrack to this game and the environments it puts you in…are …really…disturbing.. and the further you get in the game….the more…creepy…it gets… I mean really…Eerie and disturbing does an EXTREMELY good job of taking you into it…and really all it takes…is an amazing soundtrack…

Holy hell I bought another game… I know I have enough on my plate right now but I couldn’t resist. So when I went to pick up the new Pokemon Y for the girlfriend I picked up THE KING OF FIGHTERS XIII!

Why would I buy this game you may ask? Well fact is I have been using and watching for a few months now and I have been exploring  a great many games that I showed some to little interest in but figured hey..”Lets see what this is all about.” So anyway here we are! Lets step in!

So I am sure your curious why 2 parts? Well to begin with the game is really that big. It has a story mode, an arcade mode, a training mode, and a customize your character mode. Currently I still working on the Arcade mode which is hard enough. The training mode does help to get the basics down of movement, attacks, and how to adjust to playing the game but really if you have played several fighting games in the past you already have a semi sort of idea on how to play this game.

To start the game your given a pretty big cast of characters.. of which I should note I haven’t played anything from this series since “Fatal Fury 2” …on the snes…yea…that long ago….(I AM OLD!!)

Anyway the cast really does hold pretty much everything for every taste of fighter. You have your big guys, small girls, big girls, small guys, and of course your insanely ruff guys to play with. The Arcade mode “which will be the focus for this post” Start you off with selecting 3 characters from the cast. Personally I like Mai, Athena, and Terry! You can even pick different colors and really the customize mode really only lets you play with that. Your then set off on your way to fighter 3 other characters from the cast. The game does start off very much like most fighting games starting at an easy level and progressively gets harder the further down the line you go. The focus of the fighting is what really makes the game very different and stand alone from other fighting games thou.

Now the fighting in this game is set in such a way that your forced to be offensive. Being defensive helps but only when its rarely called for to defend against attacks. If you don’t play the game offensively you will not get far at all. Trust also that the game is EXTREMELY DIFFICULT at times and does require a big learning curve for timed execution and strategic thinking. While button mashing might work for some fighting games it will only get you so far in this game. If you don’t learn how to do some of the more advanced moves and techniques you aren’t going to get far.

Like most fighting games your given a health bar and a power bar. The Power bar allows you to preform Advanced special moves and builds up based on how much your being attack “typical like most fighting games”. The moves are really over the top at times and some of the times seem so unfair that its angering to play at times.  Yet again I will say You NEED TO LEARN THE MORE ADVANCED MOVES OR YOU WILL NOT GET FAR. One of the things I also noticed about it was that if I hadn’t played other fighting games it probably wouldn’t have been worth my time to play this because while it does have a training mode it is BRUTAL on starters! Not really the best starter game for someone wanting to get into the fighting game scene but fun for more advanced players with a mind to want something new.

Now while the graphics may look like something from a Street Fighter rip off.. really it couldn’t be further from that series then any other. Like I already said its very technical and not a good game for starters. AMAZING to learn to play and so much fun for those that are willing to try it. It does have a fashion of its own that really does grab the player.

The Artwork is top notch, the music is what you would expect from a fighting game “Very fast paced, techn-ish” The backgrounds are peaces of artwork on its own stage that are presented with lots of eye catching movements, and animation. Really its a very very smooth fighter and without a doubt from what I can tell probably the best fighting game in its series. Personally EVERYONE knows at this point I am a big Mortal Kombat Fan…but this game really does have a charm to it. The story mode which I will play thru does look interesting…but more of that will be in part two…

So the next couple of months we will see November and December come and go with the Holidays. Normally I would be saving up money for a new console and be super excited for all that will come to be in the world of Video games.

However from what I have seen “and this also could be my age” I really don’t see the reason to buy anything new until maybe mid next year. Nothing is appealing to me short of knowing that I will at some point buy a PlayStation 4 and perhaps a WIIu.

Fact is I still have so much more I want to finish and get back to with this generation that to buy a new system would really at this point seem sort of silly. I am still enjoying my ps3 and wii and of course my 3DS so why would I want to spend another 400 bucks on something that I don’t need RIGHT NOW.

Don’t get me wrong I am all for wanting to play the new Killzone and whatever other games come after “Mortal Kombat 10” but really until it’s announced I still have some time to wait and catch up on dare I say… MORE IMPORTANT THINGS LIKE BILLS…BLAH…and credit cards…

WOW I SOUND LIKE AN ADULT!! Either way I do plan to buy a next gen system just not right away… I still have a very long list of games I WOULD like to finish before the end of the year and I still do have games I want to buy for this GEN that haven’t been released…but in terms of new systems… probably not going to happen any time soon… Mostly cause nothing appeals to me right now….
